Spring Onions

Spring onions are often thought to be immature white onions, but they're actually a separate variety.

Depending on the type, they can have a strong flavour and are commonly used in salads and stir fries.

Although called "spring" onions, they are in season from April to October.

Spring onions are sometimes known as salad onions or scallions.

They have a more gently flavour than mature white onions, but can still cause wind...

They were cultivated as long ago as 300BC, by the Ancient Greeks.
