The New Complete Book Of Self-Sufficiency by John Seymour |

This book is often called the "bible" of the self-sufficient.
That review actually put me off buying it for a few years, because I wasn't actually looking to try to fend for myself from my 3-bed semi...
But one day I decided to take the plunge and find out what this book was all about. And I wish I had bought it years ago.
It's packed with really useful tips on every aspect of becoming more self-sufficient, from gardening through to preserving. So even if all you want to do is find a way of keeping a glut of apples or tomatoes from your local farmers' market, John Seymour's book is worth the investment.
It's written in a down-to-earth fashion and is very readable.
I dip into it every time I want advice on anything from wine making to how to manage the garden pests that munch their way through my lettuces.
It covers plenty of things I'm not into at the moment, such as how to look after cattle and generating your own power, but those topics still make interesting reading.
Basically, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to become "greener" and would like advice from one of the most established experts in the field. |
